The start is Wilhering Abbey. Visit the beautiful rococo church (17th century) and the collection of the Upper Austrian painter Fritz Fröhlich in the museum. It is the starting point for the Fritz-Fröhlich hiking trail. It leads past the idyllic Bräuhaus pond to the former artist's studio, further up the Hofberg, past the Marian chapel and across the "Rosenfeld" to probably the most beautiful viewpoint in the municipality with views over the Danube valley to the Pöstlingberg. The trail then descends, crossing the federal road to the Danube. Young hikers can let off steam at the large playground here or cool off in the water at the nearby sandbank. Enjoy a somewhat different boat ride over the Danube to Ottensheim using the cable ferry. Along the Danube, the hiking trail leads to the cemetery where the grave with the Job sculpture by the painter is located. Via the marketplace, you return to the ferry and back to the Wilhering Danube shore. Along the idyllic towpath, you reach Wilhering Abbey again.Tip:
Visit Wilhering Abbey, the abbey museum (also interesting for children!), the rococo church, guided tour of the abbey (church, cloister, museum), abbey park with old, unique trees and tree educational trail (guided tours by high school students possible). The new monastery gate also houses a monastery café and monastery shop.
Wine from the leased vineyards near Krems is also available there with its own label.
At Rosenfeld, you can especially enjoy the magnificent view and on the ferry the Danube, the ships, and the view of the power plant. Large playground in Ottensheim and on the shore (here with a mooring). Dining option at the Greek restaurant Dionysos with a beautiful view of the Danube.
Return via the idyllic towpath. Into the monastery café, where coffee, cake, drinks, and a monastery snack from regional suppliers can be consumed on a self-service basis. Possibility of a small stroller-friendly route also with a guided "Abbey route" of the planet path.

Listed as Castle of the Brothers Ulrich and Cholo of Wilhering, who had their Castle at the opposite shore of the Danube, in 1148. Rumours have it that a tunnel under the Danube links the two Castles. It was owned by the sovereign to 1527, then Emperor Ferdinand I gave the Castle and the market town of Ottesnehim as a present to his chancellor Niklas; Extended to a chateau. Today privately owned.
Greek and Italian specialities and pizzeria, warm cuisine throughout
The 850-year-old Cistercian monastery has shaped the community in many ways. The interior is decisive for the building's reputation. The effect is based on the harmony of the extremely varied, colorful, picturesque, figurative and ornamental decoration as well as the well thought-out incidence of light.
