From the hiking start (car park at Stadtgarten/kindergarten) we walk through Kirchengasse to the parish church of St. Stephan. Here begins the Stations of the Cross fitted with steel and granite sculptures, which line almost the entire Bergsiedlung. After the last station, a circle of 13 stone pillars, we follow a field and forest path uphill on the right. Through the beautiful Steyregg forest with its old beeches, we climb moderately higher; from the left comes the Alpine Club trail No. 51. After a short stretch along the forest edge, we reach after 3 km or 1 hour the Brauner farm at just under 500 m above sea level. We follow the asphalt road past the hiking trail crossing with a bench and enter the forest again after about 1 km by a solitary oak. The last quarter of an hour we have to exert ourselves; the forest trail is steep! After 4.2 km or 1.5 hours, we reach the 616 m high Pfenningberg summit.
Tip:This hiking route was created in 2019 as a result of an Agenda 2000 project in the town of Steyregg. The Steyregg hikes are typical "Mühlviertel" and are easily accessible by public transport.Equipment:
