From the hiking start (car park at Stadtgarten/kindergarten) we walk through Kirchengasse to the parish church of St. Stephan. Here begins the Way of the Cross adorned with steel and granite sculptures, which lines almost the entire Bergsiedlung. After the last station, a circle of 13 stone columns, we follow a field and forest path uphill to the right. Through the beautiful Steyregg forest with its old beech trees, we climb moderately higher; from the left comes Alpine Club Path No. 51, after a short stretch along the forest edge we reach Brauner farm at just under 500 m above sea level after 3 km or 1 hour. We follow the asphalt road, past the hiking trail junction with a bench, and after about 1 km at a solitary oak again enter the forest. The last quarter of an hour requires effort as the forest path is steep! After 4.2 km or 1.5 hours, we reach the 616 m high Pfenningberg summit.
