Description:
The alpine variant Loser offers a good possibility to explore the Tote Gebirge from the center of Ausseerland - even from the geographical center of Austria. You should also take time for a stop in Altaussee. The place is special in many ways - just think of the artists and literary figures who found inspiration here. And there are not many places as beautiful as the shore of Lake Altaussee, above which the massive Trisselwand towers.

Directions:
From the tourist office at the Kurhausplatz in Bad Aussee, turn right onto the main street. After just a few steps, turn left, walk through Kammerhofgasse and across Chlumeckyplatz before turning left up Bäckergasse. Continue straight on Haslauergasse, then turn right into Frank-Thieß-Gasse. This leads steeply to the late baroque Klosterhof and the Blutschwitz Chapel and into the district of Obertressen (784 m). On the following Sigmund-Freud-Straße under the Tressenstein along. Its continuation is the Mößernstraße, from which you turn right after the bridge over the Kroissenbach on the Bartlhofstraße into the village of Platten (Temel campsite). There the Plattenkogelweg branches off to the left, on which you walk over to the Altausseer Traun. Turn right to Villa Seeklause at the Altausseer See (712 m).

Turn left across the river, past the Hotel Seevilla and - turning right onto the Brahmsweg - to Fischerndorf, the center of Altaussee (719 m). 1:30 hrs.

After crossing the forest road, continue to the Loser toll road, which you follow a few steps to the right. Then you hike on the road branching off on the mountain side to the Augstalm and right up to the wonderfully situated and accordingly well-visited Loserhütte (1,540 m) of the Alpine Club. 2:30 h

Tip:
Summit detour to the Loser (1,837 m)

Safety guidelines:

In alpine terrain, pay attention to the danger of falling rocks.

Until early summer you can encounter steep snowfields or firn gullies - especially in icy conditions there is then an acute danger of falling and thus of death!

Due to storm damage, forestry work or construction work, individual sections of the trail may be temporarily difficult or impossible to pass.

Cows on the alp are often curious. Because they are mother cows, they develop a strong drive to protect their calves. Therefore, move quietly on cow pastures, keep at least 20 m distance to the animals and do not stroke calves under any circumstances! In case of threatening gestures (pawing, stamping) slowly move away backwards (do not turn your back). Dogs on a leash, they must not bark at cows or even chase them. In the event of an attack, it is essential to let them off the leash.

Equipment:
For all stages you will need hiking or mountain boots with a treaded rubber sole as well as wind- and rainproof clothing.

A change of clothes and a small first-aid kit should also be in your backpack. How much food you pack depends on the number of stops you make. In any case, you should take enough to drink. Telescopic poles are especially helpful when going downhill.
