"Go West" is the motto when the tour on the R6 Römerweg leaves the district town of Vöcklabruck. Past Timelkam, an alternative route to the R6 leads from Haunolding on the newly signposted cycle route 255 to the centre of Gampern (winged altar worth seeing) before reaching the R6, which continues to Vöcklamarkt.
Here, route 253 turns north, idyllic side roads lead along the Westbahn railway to the Zipf brewery, where a guided tour and/or tasting of the hop juice is highly recommended. Without any significant effort, you reach Frankenburg, where the Hausruck with the observation tower on the Göblberg (801 m) is the definitive eye-catcher and the dice game area is a reminder of the historical events of the Peasants' War.
This is where the scenic ascent begins - always following the 253 markings - over the western slope of Rothauptberg and Göblberg until the ridge is finally reached after Hoblschlag at the Jägertafel. A good forest track (not suitable for racing bikes) leads northwards on route 251 over the main ridge of the Hausruck, a detour to the nearby Pramet bathing lake for a refreshment and a visit to the Stelzhamerhaus before heading downhill out of the forest.
The Innviertel region is reached and the 251 passes through small villages and hilly countryside to Hohenzell. Depending on the charge level of your batteries or thighs, nearby Ried im Innkreis is a good place to spend the night or relax and do some sightseeing.
Now follow the R23 eastwards to Haag am Hausruck, where the eventful ride begins on the former railway line of the "Haager Lies" - the cycle path of the same name has led past inviting rest areas via Gaspoltshofen and Neukirchen to Lambach since the end of the railway operation.
The Römerweg forms the final part of the cycle tour, which initially leads along the Ager via Schwanenstadt and Attnang back to Vöcklabruck, where the nearby leisure park and town square invite you to take a stroll through the town with or without a bike.
The cycle circuit can also be cycled in the opposite direction.
