As a guest in Kirchdorf, the composer enjoyed excursions to the nearby surroundings. Several anecdotes also tell of a visit to Altpernstein Castle: only with great difficulty and sometimes "carried by angels" – sitting on the intertwined hands of his companions – was he able to manage the steep castle path. Once at the top, Bruckner had himself locked up in the castle dungeon. Moved by the torments of "imprisonment," he is said – once free again – to have exclaimed "Resurrexit!" ("He is risen!").
This hike will be reenacted on June 16. Anyone who wishes can also expose themselves to the experience of being locked up upon arrival and then express their impressions in musical notation.
