The Gosau Lakes lie like two jewels, nestled at the foot of the Dachstein and framed by the spectacular Gosaukamm. For trail runners, there is, among other routes, this loop which takes us not only around the front Gosausee but also back to the Holzmeisteralm at the rear GosauseeDirections:
We start at Gasthaus Gosausee, from where you already have a beautiful view of the Gosausee and the surrounding mountain scenery. Once a year, the Gosausee loop run starts here, which circles the front Gosausee over a distance of a little more than 4 km (but at 1000m elevation). We turn right and run along forest roads by the lake shore to the rear end of the front Gosausee. From here, we increasingly run through denser forest, which occasionally clears, and we reach the Gosaulacke. The high rock faces and sunshine on beautiful days are reflected in the blue-green water. The path leads us straight ahead on forest roads, but now with more inclines. The last incline before we leave the forest again is the steepest. However, we are rewarded after about 200m altitude gain with an incredible view. With renewed enthusiasm, we run for a refreshment to the Holzmeisteralm at the rear end of the lake. The fresh Kaiserschmarrn is especially popular here.
After the refreshment, we return the same way. In the alpine area after the Gosaulacke, the path now branches, and this time we follow the other shore. We continue running, beneath us at the shore runs a short practice via ferrata, then we reach the Gosausee road, which leads us directly back to the starting point.

The Sonnenalm is located in the middle of the skiing and hiking region Dachstein West in a sunny position at about 1600m above sea level, just below the mountain station of the Panorama Jets Zwieselalm. And the name comes not by chance: our sheltered sun terrace with about 250 seats invites summer and winter to linger and offers a breathtaking view of the Dachstein Glacier and the mountain worlds of the Gosaukamm and the Tennengebirge. And on particularly beautiful days you can even see the Grossglockner - the highest mountain in Austria - from the terrace. Our cozy sun loungers invite you to relax. If the weather does not play along or if the temperatures do not allow it, you can enjoy our cozy dining room with tiled stove as well as the conservatory with a total of approx. 130 seats inside the Sonnenalm. Even for those who feel less comfortable on two boards, our hut is within easy reach of a 50 m walk from the top station of the Panorama Jet. In summer, after a 15-minute Alpine walk from the Gosaukamm cable car, we are the perfect place for a cozy retreat. We are happy to pamper you with all sorts of home-made delicacies and a wide range of drinks, a liqueur or home-brewed schnapps to conclude of course there must not be missing. On the Sonnenalm we welcome you in the winter from about mid-December to Easter and in summer from mid-June to mid-October. Tradition and hospitality are our top priority. Take a look and see for yourself. We look forward to seeing
The rustic, comfortable, approx. 300-year-old alpine hut is the ideal destination for hikers. Here you will find peace and relaxation - which was already worth a visit for the young Empress Sisi. At the Zwieselalmhütte, Austrian dishes are served, which are still prepared on the wood stove.
The best way to get to the Alm from Annaberg is with the Donnerkogelbahn, from where you can hike comfortably for an hour across the Almboden to the hut. Tip: Hike "in the footsteps of Empress Sisi" and experience an exclusive insight into the former bedroom of the Austrian Empress, who stayed here several times in this hut. More information and registration for the guided hike via this link.
You can also reach the hut from Gosau or Lake Gosau via well-maintained hiking trails. Another option is to go up with the Gosaukammbahn. From the mountain station you can hike comfortably to the alpine hut. The 30-minute walk takes you past beautiful flora and mountain landscapes and is definitely a worthwhile excursion.
Accommodation possible at the hut.
