The Falkenstein pilgrimage route
A historic pilgrimage route leads from St. Gilgen via Fürberg over the Falkenstein and the village of Ried to St. Wolfgang. This is a cultural trail that is unique in Europe, with 24 signposted points of interest documenting its special significance – from prehistoric places of worship to Christian missionary work by St. Wolfgang to the height of pilgrimage and the beginning of modern tourism.
The trail is illuminated with torches until February 2.
Trail not cleared, mostly footprints
From the Fürberg parking lot, follow the historic pilgrimage route via Falkenstein (trail sign no. 28) to the village of Ried and on to St. Wolfgang. Apart from the relatively steep ascent to Falkenstein (approx. 200 meters of elevation gain) and the descent, the trail is easy to walk for the whole family and is lined with impressive memorials.
