Beer culture on two wheels: In the border light of Bohemian Forest & Mühltal
4190 Bad Leonfelden
This tour was developed as part of an Interreg project between Bavaria and Austria.
Your tour starts at the parking lot of Schlägl Abbey. From here you ride up to the market square of Aigen-Schlägl. The first ascent begins just after the last houses on a well-maintained road. Later you change to a forest path, which takes you through longer forest passages deeper and deeper into the Bohemian Forest.
Back on the main route, you follow the gentle undulations of the main Šumava ridge. In the Hochficht ski area, you cross the ski slopes twice before sitting in the Gasthaus zum Überleben a little later - with a wooden parlor, sun terrace, local beer and even brass music from the local brass band on Sundays.
The Mühltal begins in Schwarzenberg at the Hotel Bergkristall. A lovely landscape that opens up like a gentle basin between the hills. From here you can always look up to the main ridge of the Bohemian Forest and down to Schlägl Abbey. On the way, the Schnitzelwirt Mülleder in Klaffer am Hochficht awaits you for a hearty stop before you head back to Aigen-Schlägl.
