THE SOMEWHAT DIFFERENT ACCOMMODATION OPTION

The cells

There are 12 cells on the first and second floors of the cell wing, which have been shining in new splendour since 2019. The heavy iron doors were repainted, the vaults were renovated and bathrooms were installed. The only real innovation is the ability to lock the doors from the inside and then open them again (the inmates probably didn't have underfloor heating in the past either). The prison in the heart of Braunau offers a total of 9 completely renovated prison cells for overnight stays:

6 single cells (1 bunk bed)
3 double cells (2 bunk beds)

To make your stay truly authentic, you will be using the original furnishings of the recently abandoned Salzburg City Prison. To make sure you sleep really comfortably, all the bunk beds have been fitted with new mattresses and bedding.

What the prisoners didn't have back then, however, was free Wi-Fi in every cell!

Single cell - 1 bunk bed

Welcome to solitary confinement, which you can also serve in pairs. The original bunk beds, armchairs and tables, which were actually used in a prison as recently as 2016, add to the authentic prison flair. You can use two showers in the cell corridor while you are out. A toilet, washbasin and WIFI are available in all cells.

Double cell - 2 bunk beds

Size: 18 m²

The "spacious" double cells are located on the second floor. In order to offer our guests maximum comfort, two cells have been joined together and a shower with WC has been installed. The authentic prison flair is rounded off by the original bunk beds, armchairs, tables and lockers, which were actually used in a prison as recently as 2016. WIFI is available in every cell.


To sit together with other inmates, there is the opportunity to meet in the cosy parlour. As soon as everyone has explained why they are innocent here, they can watch the latest news and TV shows together on the Smart TV. On cool evenings, the splendid tiled stove radiates cosy warmth and right next door is the fully equipped communal kitchen.
