Ice Sound
4831 Obertraun
Maki Namekawa - piano, Julian Pixel Schiederer - sound installation, Christian Kapun - bass clarinet
Using fine microphones, he brings the inaudible to the surface, collects fleeting sounds and condenses them into a floating carpet of sound that lets the room breathe.
Maki Namekawa's piano rises from this multi-layered floating: music by Philip Glass, pulsating and clear, like light in ice. A solo clarinet solo by Christian Kapun cuts through the sound space - breathing, searching, narrating - and combines with the installation to form a quietly luminous whole.
Maki Namekawa performs regularly at international venues such as Suntory Hall Tokyo, Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center New York, Davies Symphony Hall San Francisco, Barbican Center and Cadogan Hall London, Cité de la Musique Paris, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Musikverein Vienna, Salzburg Festival, Klangspuren Schwaz, Ars Electronica Linz, Musik-Biennale Berlin, Rheingau Musik Festival, Eclat Festival Stuttgart and Klavier-Festival Ruhr.
Julian Pixel Schmiederer works as an artist and director at the interface
interface of sound, installation and film. His works have been shown at the
Localize Festival 2024 in Potsdam, at the Ars Electronica Festival Linz and as part of the European Capital of Culture 2024.
