We humans carry the longing within us to preserve our existence and to immortalize ourselves. The image of humanity from the Renaissance has shaped our contemporary view, and yet "social media" has managed to question our enlightened self. The multimedia flood of images seems to blur our focus on ourselves rather than sharpening it, directing attention instead solely to the exterior. However, it is our interior that truly defines us.
In their exhibition, the Emmanuel Walderdorff Gallery seeks to explore whether fine art, with its time-intensive analog techniques, can counter the fast-paced digital age and create an image of humanity that defies transience and has lasting significance. The concept of "image of humanity" in philosophy refers to the essence of humans, their qualities, the meaning of their existence, and their values. Even in contemporary art, it remains a central concern to capture glimpses of humanity as both individuals and social beings. It can illuminate the question: Who are we today?
