Hike with stories from the ArcheKult Museum to the Spitzvilla

Heritage Day, September 27, 2026
Hike to the Spitzvilla
Meeting point: 1:00 p.m., Traunkirchen town square, in front of the ArcheKult Museum

Following the great interest in last year’s hike to the Lion Monument, we have selected the Spitzvilla in Traunkirchen as the “Monument of the Year 2026.” We’ll start again at the town square and hike along the riverside road. Along the way, we’ll stop at selected points to learn about the history, geology, and legends of our hometown.
Traunkirchen is full of secrets: Why was the Harrach Villa built twice? Where was the first movie theater in Traunkirchen, and where was the first Neolithic settlement? And who was this Slatin Pasha who resided in the Spitzvilla?
Ursula Rohrweck will whisk us away into the world of legends and recount tragic love stories—“The Waves of Lake Traun and Love.” Then there are stories of charcoal burners’ and blacksmiths’ devils, witches, and wizards in Traunkirchen, as well as Hittrach, the “cocaine of the common man.”
Prof. Georg Spaun delves deep into Earth’s history and explains the geology of the lake region, the fluctuations in the lake’s water level over the millennia, and solves the mystery of the asphalt uplifts in the Gaißwand Tunnel.
At the Spitzvilla, there will also be an opportunity to stop for a quick refreshment break.
We look forward to welcoming many visitors!
