47 Years of Art & Culture Raab - Sophie Abraham - "The Beauty in Between" (NL/AUT)

With her second solo album The Beauty in Between, cellist Sophie Abraham opens up spaces full of sound colors that celebrate the in-between and the indeterminate. Her music is at once a musical, personal and socio-political statement - an ode to diversity, crossing boundaries and the power that lies in the in-between. Personal experiences are the starting point for her music: in her compositions, Sophie Abraham explores new paths between quiet moments and powerful outbursts, carefully breaking down musical pigeonholes and expanding genre boundaries.

Born in Groningen, Abraham studied in Graz and Vienna and now works with ensembles such as the radio.string.quartet, Trio Frühstück and numerous international musicians. Her playing moves between classical music, contemporary composition and experimental soundscapes. For the concert at Kunst & Kultur Raab, she offers an exclusive preview of her new album - a haunting plea for the beauty of shades of gray, the spaces in between and accepted individuality beyond norms.
