Cistercian Abbey Schlierbach

A visit to the Abbey of Schlierbach is a journey of discovery into a spiritual world whose power and fascination remain alive to this day. What began half a millennium ago unfolds today in baroque splendor: from the magnificent abbey rooms to the Abbey Library with its 12,000 valuable books. You will see the world with new eyes. Try various Schlierbach organic cheese specialties and visit the stained glass exhibition.

Duration: approx. 2 hours.

Groups: year-round during the opening hours of the Panorama Café & Lounge by prior arrangement for groups of 4 or more. Guided tours can be booked with or without a cheese tasting. There is also the option to explore the abbey independently with our audio guide "Hearonymus." The audio guide can be downloaded for free and off you go.

Summer months: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM
Winter months: 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Since 1999, bio cheese specialties have also been produced in the Abbey Cheese Dairy.
The Panorama Café & Lounge has been designed to create a complementary contrast to the historically significant architecture of the baroque abbey. The transparent building appears inviting and friendly to visitors. It serves as a meeting area, houses a monastery shop, and provides space for exhibitions and seminars.
The Schlierbach cheese dairy was founded in 1924, with its first product being the Schlierbacher Schlosskäse. This finely spiced soft cheese with red culture is still one of the most important products of the organic cheese dairy.
Program:

During the tour, we will show you the abbey premises, such as the Bernardisaal, the library, the cloister with the Schlierbach Madonna, the stained glass gallery with a subsequent cheese tasting.
Furthermore, we offer our guests cheese-wine tastings under the expert guidance of a cheese-wine sommelier.



by car:
From Salzburg, Passau, or Vienna via the Westautobahn (A1) to the Voralpenkreuz exit, then continue on the Pyhrnautobahn (A9) to the Inzersdorf exit, proceed on B 138 towards Kirchdorf until the turn-off to Schlierbach.
Coming from Graz, use the Pyhrnautobahn (A9) to the Klaus a/d Pyhrnbahn exit, then continue on B 138, take a right turn to Schlierbach after Kirchdorf. After about 2.5 km, turn right to Schlierbach, 1 km to the town center.
