Fantastic view

The observation tower Moldaublick on the small hill on the Sulzberg (1041 m) offers a beautiful view of the Vltava reservoir (Czech Republic) - one of the largest reservoirs in Europe - and the birthplace of Adalbert Stifter in Oberplan. The majority of the Czech territory visible from here was populated by the German-speaking population until the end of the Second World War. Afterwards, the Sudeten Germans were resettled from their homeland. The small hill on the Sulzberg offers the expellees a beautiful view of their former homeland. As the trees grew taller and taller and visibility became poorer and poorer, the market town of Ulrichsberg decided to erect a viewing tower. The tower, an old oil derrick from Gänserndorf, has a height of 24 m and 137 steps and was erected in 1967.

Various hiking trails lead to the Moldaublick. If you want to save yourself the somewhat steeper ascent to Schöneben, you can also start the hike directly in Schöneben. In the summer months, it is also possible to reach the tower directly via Ulrichsberg and Schöneben. Large parking lot, sanitary facilities! In winter ONLY one cross-country ski trail leads to the Moldaublick! The wooden show house is a model house made of three different types of wood: the log house is made of fir wood, the extension is a frame construction and the shelter is made of round timber. In the wooden show house, atmospheric pictures can be viewed on a monitor and texts by Stifter can be listened to from headphones in 2 large wooden armchairs!
