Braunauer Skulpturenweg
Braunau am Inn, Oberösterreich, Österreich
- Suitable for groups
The Innviertler Künstlergilde and the City of Braunau realized the project „steel sculptor symposium – sculptures in public space“ after the initiative of sculptor and chairman of IKG Walter Holzinger which unfortunately passed away 2022, and Hanna Kirmann.
Eight steel sculptors of the guild conceived respectively one artistic work especially for Braunau and relate for instance to the history of the city or the townscape around the site. Seven of the artistic works were produced in Braunau in August while the 11 day symposium took place in the market hall. The eigth contribution, designed by Walter Holzinger, was created outside of the symposium as comissioned work.
From symposium to sculpture path
The official handing over of the sculptures to the city of Braunau took place on November 17, 2023. With this eight artistic works, a sculpture path arose around the city center for the anniversary year which offers art in the public space and consists even beyond the anniversary as a visible sign of connectedness of the Innviertler Künstlergilde and the city of Braunau. The individual artistic works are in close context with the carefully selected places in the city. But they are also in a close context with the other artistic works of the sculpture path. Meanwhile they reflect the individual artists and their work so far.
A brochure on the occassion of the anniversary of 100 years of Innviertler Künstlergilde was designed which presents the artistic works and escorts the tour.
The participating artists
Stefan Esterbauer (Hochburg-Ach), Dietmar Gruber (Hohenzell), Harald Herkner (Vienna/Lohnsburg), Walter Holzinger (Ried; posthumous), Rolf Laven (Veinna), Paul Osterberger (Riedau), Christine Perseis (Mondsee), Andreas Sagmeister (Raab).
