Bad Goisern at Lake Hallstatt

Bad Goisern am Hallstättersee, Oberösterreich, Österreich

In winter, the long-drawn Goiserer Valley wraps itself in a white blanket of snow and turns into a winter sports resort away from the hustle and bustle of the Alps. The birthplace of Hubert von Goisern gently hugs Lake Hallstatt in the north and the imperial city of Bad Ischl in the south.

Winter fun in the inner Salzkammergut

Tobogganing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing or ski touring are just some of the activities for friends of the gentle winter. The high-altitude cross-country skiing trails at the Predigstuhl offer panoramic cross-country ski runs, while in the Nordic center not only trails but also a ski jump await you. A variety of snowshoe hikes and ski tours let you soak up nature and gently enjoy the panorama of the Inner Salzkammergut.

For real fun there is the toboggan run Trockentann, where there is not only a family run but also a world championship run, which is also a challenge for tobogganing professionals.

If you would like to strap on your skis you can reach the ski region Dachstein West as well as the Freesports Arena Dachstein Krippenstein in only 20 minutes by car.

A place full of tradition, customs and craftsmanship

Together with the towns of Gosau at Dachstein, Hallstatt and Obertraun, Bad Goisern at Lake Hallstatt is part of the Hallstatt-Dachstein/Salzkammergut UNESCO World Heritage region.

In Bad Goisern at Lake Hallstatt traditions and customs are still alive. Be it at the regulars' tables in the inns, where you can still meet the locals in dirndls and lederhosen, or at the various event highlights such as the Goiserer Gamsjagatagen (festival of tradition and customs) or the "Aufgeigen in the Kirchengasse" (violin festival).

Important for Goiserer is the craft. In the Hand.Werk.Haus in the castle Neuwildenstein you can learn a lot about the history of handicraft. You can also visit real, rustic production facilities and experience the production live on site, such as at the original Goiserer shoemaker, in the ANNAMAX mustard factory or in the mill of Anzenau.
