The Steyrsbergerreith circuit leads in a wide arc from the Hutterer Böden via the Steyrsbergerreith (alpine pasture: open in summer in good weather) and the Baumschlagerberg back to Hinterstoder.
From the mountain station of the gondola lift, you can easily reach the eastern section of the Hutterer Böden at the Edtbauernalm via the Hutterer Böden trail entrance. Following the path to the outermost edge of the terrain, you should definitely experience the view into the depths at the "Gamssitz", an exposed rocky outcrop with a magnificent view of the Upper Rottal and the surrounding mountains.
After the short "Ansitz", as the hunters say, it's all downhill from here. Next to the path carved into the rock, the terrain falls away steeply and it is hard to imagine that the Vorderstoder farmers used to drive their cattle to the alpine pastures of the Huttererböden on this impassable cart track over the Redlstein. Today, you will occasionally encounter mountain bikers, for whom this scenic route is both a pleasure and a challenge. In Unteres Rottal, the wild and romantic trail leads into a forest road.
After around two kilometres, turn right and briefly follow a forest path to reach the Steyrsbergerreith, the most rustic farmed alpine pasture in the Stodertal. This popular hiking destination is well worth a stop to enjoy a home-made alpine snack against an impressive mountain backdrop. The suffix "Reith" at Steyrsbergerreith comes from the fact that the areas cleared by the Bavarians in ancient times were called Reithen. Then as now, these were used by farmers as low mountain pastures.
The trail leads down to the Baumschlagerberg mountain hut resort in the municipality of Vorderstoder via forest paths, from where you can be picked up by hiking taxi. Or continue on foot: after a short stretch on a tarmac road, this loop joins the Stodertal panoramic loop and leads back to the village centre of Hinterstoder on easy gravel paths, with the mountain giants of the Totes Gebirge constantly in view, descending slightly.
