Bike & Hike Schrocken: a real challenge for bikers and hikers!
Step by step, with the goal in mind.
The hike to the Schrocken is a great alpine tour where you can also make optimal use of the chairlift for the part from the middle station to the mountain station.
BIKE: compete with the cycling pros!
Strong calves are required for this bike tour (with (e-)mountain bike, racing bike or gravel bike), as it leads from the large cable car car park in Hinterstoder via the approx. 10 km long Höss Panoramastraße to the Hutterer Höss (1,827 m).
Since 2021, the Hutterer Höss has been the target stage of the Upper Austrian tour, so this is where the racing bike pros compete again over the last few kilometers and are rewarded with a magnificent panorama of the Hutterer Höss skiing and hiking area.
The changing point is near the former Dachsalm. Please park your bike here, as there is a driving ban on the Hutterer Boden!
Way back: alternatively, after the hike, you can take the MTB3 to the Edtbauernalm, to the Rottal (pushing route for inexperienced cyclists!!) and to the Steyrsbergerreith (unique panorama!). From here it goes downhill past the Schafferteich and along the winter hiking trail with a few climbs and descents back to Hinterstoder.
Please note that the entire MTB3 route from Hinterstoder is approx. 30km long and has approx. 1,000m of altitude difference!
HIKE: From the middle station you can take the chairlift (Höss Express) to the top station. The sporty hiker of course walk via the Hutterer Almen-Runde to the mountain station.
From the mountain station follow path 41, past the well-known photo motif "Schafkogelsee" through the alpine pasture area to the Schafkogel. From there, path no. 217 takes you in the direction of Schrocken. With the Schrocken summit directly in front of you, the path leads with a breathtaking mountain panorama on all sides over the soft Almboden in the direction of the ridge, which can be seen from afar. In some exposed places you may have to overcome a little, but the tricky places are secured with ropes or chains and offer a good grip. Then it goes steadily uphill to the summit (2,281 m). One summit isn't enough for you? From the Schrocken it is not far to the Kreuzspitze (2,327 m) and to the Hochmölbing (2,336 m).
Go back the same way.
How difficult will it be?
Sure-footedness and a no fear for heights are an absolute must! We recommend this hike only with really sure-footed and hiking-experienced children from about 10 years of age.
The opening hours of the mountain railways can be found here
Park comfortably and free of charge at the large cable car car park in Hinterstoder.
With the (e-)mountain bike, racing bike or gravel bike you ride the almost 10km long Höss Panorama Straße (toll road, free for cyclists) up to the Hutterer Höss.
