The "Nature" beer bike tour takes you to the most beautiful natural spots. This ambitious tour in the northern part of the holiday region promises pure nature.

Due to the metres in altitude, we recommend dividing the tour into 4 daily stages.
However, those who are more active can also complete the first two stages in one day
and thus shorten it to three days.

The tour starts in the medieval brewing town of Freistadt and leads past the former Iron Curtain on the border river Maltsch. Once no man's land and now one of the most important nature reserves - the European Green Belt. Another natural jewel along this beer cycle tour is the Tannermoor with the Rubner Teich. In the wild and romantic Aisttal valley in the Waldaist-Naarn Natura 2000 nature reserve, you have the chance to observe the rare
to observe the rare kingfisher.

Nature highlights on the tour
Freistadt: Along the water hiking trail to the Mühlviertler Urgesteinswasser fountain with 15 information boards. Thurytal - unspoilt and partly renaturalised natural gem in the Feldaist valley. Rainbach: Kerschbaumer Sattel (highest point in Rainbach) with horse-drawn railway station. Leopoldschlag: Green Belt - important nature reserve in Europe with rare bird and plant species as well as grazing water buffaloes from a partnership with Schönbrunn Zoo, fountain on the continental divide. Windhaag bei Freistadt: important nature reserve in Europe with rare bird and plant species, info: Green Belt Centre. Sandl: Maltsch Ursprung bird sanctuary, Prof. Wöss observatory, Sandl reverse glass painting UNESCO cultural heritage. Liebenau: Brockenberg with viewing platform, Koblbergpass is the highest pass in Upper Austria, Tannermoor nature reserve with Rubner Teich. Unterweißenbach: panoramic views of the Mühlviertel hills. Kaltenberg: natural viewing terrace with marvellous views. St. Leonhard bei Freistadt: Herzogreitherfelsen with viewing plateau (can only be reached on foot - approx. 15 min. walk from the cycle path), Bründlkapelle and Augenbründl, Susi Wallner viewing platform. St. Oswald bei Freistadt: pilgrimage chapel with Bründl spring. Grünbach: pilgrimage church of St Michael ob Rauchenödt with magnificent panoramic views, Aist spring.

Route:
Start in Freistadt (BH car park/brewery) - From the car park, turn left onto cycle path 902 via St. Peter - Sonnberg to Rainbach - in the village, turn left onto Summerauer Straße (L1483) to Summerau - after approx. 500m turn right and follow the R903 cycle path to the junction with the R5=Mühlviertel cycle path junction with the R5- Mühlviertel cycle path to Zulissen - KERSCHBAUMER SATTEL - Eisenhut - Wullowitz - along the Maltsch along the European Green Belt to Leopoldschlag (Natura 2000 information centre).At Mairspindt, the R5 turns left to Sandl - detour possible on the R906 to the Green Belt Centre information centre (marked in green on the map)- Sandl (UNESCO cultural heritage Sandler Hinterglasmalerei with museum) - Neuhof -Schöneben - Liebenau - Ruben, Tannermoor nature reserve - continue on the R5 to Wildberg - Greinerschlag - at the Hirschalm junction turn right via the R943 to Unterweißenbach - continue on the R953 to Kaltenberg - from Kaltenberg on the R947 via Piberbach - Haid - to St. Leonhard/Fr. Leonhard/Fr.; change to the R909 - Herzogreith - Fürling - March - St. Oswald/Fr. (open-air museum, schnapps museum and golf course) continue on the R908 - Oberrauchenödt (pilgrimage church) - Mitterbach - at the fire station turn left onto the connecting road Grünbach - Schlag - to the finish in Freistadt.

Accessibility / arrival

Arrival possible with the Summerau railway to Summerau station. Direct access to the cycle path possible. There is NO e-bike hire station at Summerau station.

Travelling by car:
From Linz, take the A7 to Unterweitersdorf, then continue on the S10 to the Sandl/Grünbach exit. Continue on the B38, then turn left towards Grünbach/Windhaag. Follow the road to Windhaag b. Fr.
